Oby Ezekwesili Faults Jonathan’s Visit To Maiduguri, Says Chibok Girls Neglected

Former minister of education and one of the leaders of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Oby Ezekwesili, has faulted President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to Maiduguri on Thursday, describing it as a wrong timing after he had failed to visit Chibok, where 276 schoolgirls were abducted since April 14, 2014.

Ezekwesili, who took to her twitter handle to express her displeasure with Jonathan’s action, noted that since the abduction of the Chibok girls, the President has not demonstrated enough commitment to show empathy with the Chibok people, even after making promises to the parents of the abducted girls since the middle of last year.

Meanwhile, the #BringBackOurGirls group has implored the Nigerian government to learn from the situation in France where about 90,000 police officers were deployed to tackle about four terrorists who had attacked the Charlie Hebdo.
Speaking at the group’s gathering, a member of the BBOG, Maureen Kabric, noted that “the way and manner the French government handled the Charlie Hebdo terrorists showed how the country value the security and lives of the citizens.

“Imagine the deployment of over 90,000 policemen to fish out just four terrorists, who had attacked French citizens? In Nigeria, what has our policemen done to curtail insecurity? Nigerian government should learn from this strategic way France has handled their problem and tackle the Boko Haram insurgency head-on,” she noted.

Also speaking at the daily sit-out of the group, another member of the group, Elvis Iyorngurum, queried Nigeria’s relationship with the world in the face of the current insecurities which have seen the abduction of schoolgirls in Chibok and the killings and destruction of properties in the country, and the seemingly quietness of the world in the current situation the country is facing.

He, however, urged the federal government to liaise with other countries in order to successfully tackle Boko Haram insurgency, just like Mali and South Africa had relied on Nigeria and other countries to tackle their problems in the past.
