Nasarawa PDP Asks Jega To Replace Ailing REC
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State, yesterday, called on the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to replace the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Alhaji Abdullahi Danyaya before the Saturday’s governorship election.
The party alleged that the state governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura purchased some Toyota Hilux vehicles for and for APC foot-soldiers to use during Saturday’s elections but branded them as INEC’s duty vehicles with the sole aim of gaining easy access into sensitive areas to intimidate the electorate and manipulate election results.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Director, Media and Publicity of the PDP Governorship Campaign Organisation,in Nasarawa State, Chief Philip Dada, said the party’s call was necessitated by Alhaji Danyaya’s illness, which he said, had compelled him to abdicate his official responsibilities to his personal assistant, said to be a b0s0m friend to the first son of the state governor.
Dada insisted that both the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega and the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, must urgently bring their authorities to bear on these ‘worrisome developments.’
According to him, the REC was having serious health challenges which had prevented him from carrying out his duties efficiently leading to his aide becoming the de facto REC.
“Apart from the REC’s sickness, we can authoritatively state that his PA is a close friend of the Al-Makura senior’s son, who was only recently transferred from the Karu INEC office to the state headquarters for obvious reasons. He is the de facto REC in the state because his boss can hardly walk for two meters without requiring physical support,” he said, pointing out that the situation was posing serious threat to the credibility of the electoral process in the state.
