Several people were feared dead at GSM Market popularly known as Kasuwa Waya, attached to the stadium at Uguwan Gabas in Azare, headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State yesterday following a bomb explosion that rocked the area.
According to eyewitness account, many people were seriously injured in the blast that occurred at about 5:30 p.m.
A witness, Mamman Shehu told newsmen that those injured were rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Azare but due to the ongoing nationwide strike by members of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) some of them died in the hospital.
He said Kasuwan Jagol is the only GMS Market in Azare town where people from all walks of life, visit especially in the evening, to repair their handsets or buy new ones.
Another witness, Yusuf Bashir, said: “This is the third time that bomb is exploding in Azare- one at the motor park, the other in a bank and now, they targeted the busiest area in Azare. If this explosions continue, we have no option than to vacate the area for safety.” He urged on the Federal Government to intervene and end the insurgency in the North East.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State to comment on the attack before filing this report, failed. The latest blast is the third in Azare town within a month.
