The song Can’t Smile Without You was written by David Martin, Christian Arnold and Geoff Morrow, and has been recorded by various over the years –firstly by The Carpenters.
In 1977, American singer-songwriter Barry Manilow recorded a pop version of the song housed on his album Even Now, which was released the following year.
Manilow’s version eventually turned out to be the most popular, reaching the Number 3 position on the US Billboard Hot 100 while topping the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
The song also reached Numbers 2 and 3 in Canada and Australia respectively.
Tidbit: This song’s melody was interpolated by English duo Wham! in their 1984 song Last Christmas.
