One-Punch Man Live-Action Movie Enlists Rick & Morty Creator as Writer

Sony Pictures‘ One Punch Man live-action adaptation of the popular anime and manga series has officially enlisted new writers.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Rick & Morty creator Dan Harmon and co-executive producer Heather Anne Campbell have been tapped to pen the long-in-development project. They will be replacing previously announced writers Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner (Venom, Jumanji: The Next Level). Harmon and Campbell will be joining Fast and Furious director Justin Lin, who has been attached to helm the One-Punch Man movie since 2022.

What is One-Punch Man?

“Saitama started out being a hero just for fun. After three years of ‘special’ training, he became so powerful that he can defeat opponents with a single punch. Now, alongside Genos, his faithful cyborg disciple, Saitama is ready to begin his official duties as a professional hero working with the Hero Association,” reads the synopsis (via Crunchyroll). “However, the frequency of monster appearances is surging and it increasingly appears as if the Great Seer Madame Shibabawa’s prediction about the Earth’s doom is coming true. In the midst of this crisis, the ‘hero hunter’ Garou makes his own appearance.”

The worldwide hit manga series was created in 2009 by Japanese artist ONE as a webcomic. In 2015, it was adapted into an anime series by Madhouse. After nearly five years since Season 2 had wrapped up its 12-episode run, it was finally announced that the anime will be getting a third season, with Season 2’s main cast and staff returning.
